Journal #1: Maybe Winning Is Most Important!

David Maraniss argues in his article “Winning Actually Isn’t the Only Thing” that members of Seahawks team acted rudely about the game conclusion last Monday. Although Maraniss makes it clear that his loyalty is still to his team, the Packers, he debates both sides of the story fairly in the case that the outcome would have been reversed, giving the Packers the advantage. Maraniss’ main point was to draw attention to the ill-mannered actions of Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson following the final play of the game. He argues that the two men acted arrogantly and as if they had deserved the win fair and square. Maraniss believes that if the roles had been reversed, you would not have seen Mike McCarthy, Packers head coach, ranting around with his arms in the air signaling a touchdown as Pete Carroll did or one of our players acting deserving of such a win.

In many aspects I agree with David Maraniss on his article. The Seahawks definitely should have handled the situation differently than they did following the controversial call. Not to say they shouldn't appreciate the win, but the players and coaches know just as well as the rest of us that the final call was definitely not a fair one. Potentially if the Seahawks had been winning by an overwhelming amount they should be given the credit to act in the way they did, but that’s not the case. I agree, or at least hope, that the Packers staff and players would act honestly and respectfully on such a subject if the roles had been reversed, the Seahawks actions were arrogant and dishonorable.

  1. Your opinion is pretty much the same as mine. The Seahawks defiantly could have reacted with a little more dignity.

  2. I think that everyone was upset with how the Seahawk's reacted toward their win against the Packers. But how do you think the fans of the Seahawks reacted?
