Journal #3: Comedy Films
My favorite genre of movies would definitely have to be humor films. Just about any type of comedy has the ability to lighten your mood, even on the worst of days, and give you a break from your hectic, busy schedule. Humorous movies have the wonderful power to unite groups of complete strangers by giving them a common ground through humor. Today there seems to be an endless stream of new comedies flowing into the market giving us an incredibly wide range of topics to choose from. With such a vast amount of films continuing to be produced in the comedy genre, there really is something out there to fit everyone’s taste.
Among the many aspects of comedies, often times I find the cultural significance within the films to be the most humorous. As films draw attention to common customs within societies or situations that occur frequently it is often times what makes the movie, especially when taken to extremes as many of these types of films do. An example that seems to fit perfectly with cultural humor is the typical fiasco surrounding wedding parties and dramas that go along with the situation, as showcased in the 2011 movie Bridesmaids. This popular film demonstrates the common issue between a bridesmaid stealing the spotlight from the bride in addition to the dramatic situations that occur over the entire wedding planning process but in a way that portrays the experience to be fun and humorous. This is a perfect example of how common cultural aspects that many of us don’t even think about on a day to day basis can be made into a hit film similar to Bridesmaids.
I agree that comedies are the best films. Bridesmaids is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen! My friends and I love to quote the whole movie. Its definitely a must see for anyone who hasn't already seen it. It does turn all the fiasco that happens during a wedding and what not into a hilarious comedy.
ReplyDeleteBridesmaids is one of those movies I see myself always quoting on an everyday bases. Its a hilarious movie to watch with your friends to lighten any mood and leave you laughing for quiet some time. I would agree with Natalie that it is a must see movie for anyone! But the first 30 seconds are awkward so prepare yourself for that, and skip it if you plan on watching it will your parents.
